The second problem was caused from the first problem. When you change a major piece of hardware like a motherboard the Op system assumes that you are trying to use the activation number on a different machine other than the original one which the activation number is tied too.
All you needed to do was to call up Msoft and explain what happend and they can revalidate your activation. Seems like the repair shop should have been aware that this type of problem can occur when changing out something like a motherboard.
