Hi Folks today I have had my Windows 7 Desktop top computer taken away to be repaired for the second time since I brought it new in January so I was a bit fed up and thought I wonder if my old XP PC still works so I got it out of the back of the cupboard blew the dust of it just plugged everything into it turned it on and everything worked perfectly good old XP.

If it's a hardware problem, send the bad part in for replacement. If it's a software problem, I'm sure we can get it figured out.. :cool:

Problem was

Well the first time it was repaired they fitted a new Motherboard then last sunday morning turned on pc error message saying I did not have a valid edition of windows so tried complete recovery got to the end of the recovery another error message popped up saying I think it said configuration error (code purple) and would not finish Recovery.

What recovery was it doing? Did it ask you to reactivate Windows?

The second problem was caused from the first problem. When you change a major piece of hardware like a motherboard the Op system assumes that you are trying to use the activation number on a different machine other than the original one which the activation number is tied too.

All you needed to do was to call up Msoft and explain what happend and they can revalidate your activation. Seems like the repair shop should have been aware that this type of problem can occur when changing out something like a motherboard.

I think the repair shop was extremely negligent in not taking care of the revalidation issue or at least making the customer aware that he would have to revalidate and explaining why and how.
