Event 33, SideBySide

I am trying to run some 64bit programs on my new PC (Win7 Pro 64bit). Each time I attempt to run them i get an error box appear stating the following:

"The application has failed to start because its side-by-side configuration is incorrect. Please see the application event log or use the command-line sxstrace.exe.tool for more detail"

When i got to the event log i get the following message which doesn't mean much to me.

"Activation context generation failed for "d:\teklastructures\15.0\nt\bin\xs_cancel.exe.Manifest". Dependent Assembly Microsoft.VC80.MFC,processorArchitecture="amd64",publicKeyToken="1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b",type="win32",vers ion="8.0.50727.4053" could not be found. Please use sxstrace.exe for detailed diagnosis."

Programs failing include, Tekla Structures V15 64bit, DWG TrueView 2010 64bit, but funnily enough on a 64bit OS it is only the 64bit programs causing the problem.

Can any one help me as i am not able to run the programs i need to making the win7 machine an expensive paper weight

See if you have these runtime programs installed. VC80.MSC is part of these packages.



You are probably missing the (x64) version.

After installing run Windows Update to get the two update programs.

That was my initial thought as well, i made sure i had the Visual C++ times installed when i was trying to get it to work.

Finally got an answer from the supplier of the PC, they recommended turning DEP off through command prompt (bcdedit.exe /set {current} nx AlwaysOff) once i ran that and restarted the problem went away. Not entirely sure if turning the DEP was the right way to go but it worked.

Disabling DEP is not the best choice and not sure why that would have stopped your programs. I assume you have the 2005 version of C++ on your system. There is a 2008 version but uses VC90.MSC and does not have the VC80.MSC your program uses. There may be a way to have DEP on for everything except your programs but I don't know how to set that up. Did you contact the program vendors to see what they say.

Yip we have the 2005 version of C++ installed. The PC was brought from our local IT company. It was their recommendation to turn the DEP off after they had tried to work on the problem overnight. We haven't queried anyone else as of yet with the exception of this forum.

We have tried turning the DEP off for the individual program (as administrator) but when we tried we had a windows message come up saying that we couldn't turn DEP off for 64bit applications
