No solution for deleting file in Win 7???

    No solution for deleting file in Win 7???


    Hi there,

    I got the "Could not find this item" issues as posted earlier in this forum. However, all the solutions do not seem to work for me (Win 7 X64 with 4 Gb ram, on which I logon as Administrator!!!).....

    * First tried F5
    * Tried reboot
    * Tried command prompt and rd, attrib, rename, del commands

    Nothing worked! The folder still shows up in the explorer.

    I proceeded with searching for the foldername in the registry (nothing found) and did a chkdsk (everything okay). I even tried the Take Ownership registry hack. All without success....

    I have no funny processes running (like virusscanners and such), but I do not seem to get rid of this thing. Complete message is:

    Could not find this item
    This is no longer located in C:\Users\Administrator\Downloads. Verify the item's location and try again.

    I cannot remove, rename or move this folder, but it still shows up in the Explorer. I can put files in the folder however (??).

    The Explorer frequently tells me I need permission from the Administrator also. That's weird, cuz I am the Administrator. This is usually solved by a refresh, but it goes to show that there seems to be something wrong with Win7's explorer....

    If the folder is really there, this should delete it:

    Undeletable File - Delete

    That's the problem, the folder isn't there! But it does show up in both the explorer as well as in the command prompt. Command prompt gives "The system cannot find the file specified".....

    Anyone else a suggestion???

    Maybe your disk is corrupted...

    Run some diagnostics on your hard drive...

    Command Prompt Checks: CHKDSK, SFC /SCANNOW

    Download Ultimate Boot CD, Run the Hard Drive Diagnostics.

    I tried that, there doesn't seem to be any disk problems. Also ran virusscanner and Search and Destroy Spybot, no results.....

    This is driving me mad!!

    YES!!!!!!!!! I did it!!! Got the solution from this thread:

    Can't delete folder in Windows 7

    I tried a dir /x in the command prompt, then did a "rd <8.3 filename>" and it gave me: The directory is not empty. From there on I did a attrib -r -s -h *.* to see if there were any files I've missed (thought I checked) and indeed: there was a hidden desktop.ini in it. Removed it and then removed the folder! Finally!

    You gotta admit: it's a stupid warning message, this "Could not find this item". Microsoft: why not just say: "There is hidden/secret/not owned by you (etc.) file in the folder"????

    Next time try this to expose hidden .ini and other system files...

    In Windows Explorer - TOOLS|FOLDER OPTIONS|VIEW tab
    UNcheck the box to the left of "Hide protected operating system files."
