Build 7100 Vs 7077 x-64 anyone. 7077 better for me

    Hi all
Just a couple of points. Both x-64 bit versions.

    W7 build 7077 -- 100% OK

    W7 build 7100 -- few glitches

    1) install had to uninstall some pre-existing drivers on "Upgrade" before it would install -- and you've guessed it -- couldn't re-install the drivers again.

On "New install" drivers wouldn't install in any way --even in compatability mode.

    2) some 3rd party apps ran fine in build 7077 but "Crap out" in 7100.

    3) .NET is 100% totally hosed and bollixed up in 7100 -- hopefully this will be fixed by RTM. Cannot install ANY .Net 2.0 apps -- worked fine in 7077.

    4) 3rd party TV application doesn't run AT all in 7100 -- I NEED this for viewing composite video -- WMC is fine for normal TV viewing

Performance wise both builds seem OK.

However if this is RC it seems a couple of steps backwards from build 7077 as far as installability and compatability are concerned.

I'll leave it for a little while longer but my gut feel currently is to revert back to build 7077 until some fixes or "Service packs" come out.

    Cheers

Had no problems so far jimbo. It has been 100% trouble free for me since installation. Even the 360 controller bsod problem that has been in every build is fixed:) Every build since 7000 (except 7022) has got progressively better for me.

As we are still in testing versions even for the RC, you may have some issues with an installation, but maybe if you reinstalle all will go fine without apparent reason.

You make conclusions with only one test for both built. Did you try to install several times the 7077 and the 7100 before ? "One test" is not concluding.

By the way: try a fresh new install of RC 7100, maybe all the issues will disappear. If not, then we could begin to talk about realibility of RC 7100

I'll try again with a REALLY clean install -- I had remnants of triple boot - Linux, Vista and W7.

Wiped disc clean and will attempt clean install tomorrow.
I agree that going "Back" isn't something I want to do.

Build 7100 is fine on 2 other machines - it's just my "Main" one that had the problem.

I see there's no "general" prob with 7100 -- mine was a good D/L -- if it wasn't then a load of people would have had problems since I'm one of the people who seeded it for others.

    Cheers

I did clean install of 7100 x64. Google Chrome would not function at all. Went back to 7100 x86 which runs fine.

jimbo i cant compare as i used 7077 x86 last time, before i installed the 7100 x64 i ran dban and then installed ok it takes a lot longer depending on size of drive but i dont seem to get any errors at all installing or after.
all in all im glad i made the switch from x86 to x64 everything i do seems that little bit quicker.
