Odd Permissions Problem

I have recently updated to build 7077 (from 7000). I have noticed some strange problems when trying to write new files. Sometimes Windows will tell me I do not have the proper permissions to write to that location (such as when installing an app to the Program Files x86 folder or saving a Maya file in a folder on my spare HDD) even though I am logged in as the administrator. When I try to change permissions (say for the Program Files x86 folder) to allow anyone to write to that folder, Windows will not let me because I do not have the level to change permissions, even though I have the admin account.

What is going on here? Is there a way to fix this or this a known bug?

I have the same problem but have learned to live with it for the time being. A restart usually fixes the problem, until it happens again.

I put it down to upgrading from 7000 to 7048 (the version I'm using just now) rather than doing a fresh install.

Gonna wipe everything and install a fresh RC later this week :)

Just a suggestion, have a look in the permissions to see if that folder is "inheriting" permissions from somewhere else. If you're folder inherits from let's say a folder/directory that has the "System" or "Trusted Installer" as the owner, then you might be getting that response. Many of my files are inheriting and it makes it very difficult to understand some of the roadblocks being shown.

Look in the security tab under "Advanced" near the bottom and you may see the box checked to allow inheriting. Incidentally, any changes you make thinking they are for a particular folder should include folders and objects below that level.

Just think, layers wrapped up in layers and the object has layers on top of layers on top of layers... Well, you get the idea - it is very confusing...

Hi. I have just encountered this problem for the first time and it's a bit of a pain, to say the least. I had an issue with RocketDock not retaining settings, which I eventually tracked down to a 'Read Only' Settings.ini file in the 'Program Files/RocketDock' directory. Curiously, the file is not marked as Read only, but the root folder is, and as the poster above said, the files are inheriting. To allow changes to the file I had to take ownership, remove inheritance and grant myself appropriate permissions. All in all a laborious process for what should be a simple exercise. If anyone knows a more simple method I'd love to know. Thanks

I remember trying take ownership when I had similar issues with 7048 after upgrading instead of a clean install. If take ownership doesnt work for you, Im afraid youl have to do a clean install.

OK, I run the EVGA Precision software for clocking my GT280 and it applies the settings at startup. After installing RC, it now asks for permission every boot to run, what are the steps to change this?

I notice the program has a little security icon overlay on it now?

UAC is second notch from bottom.

Yes, it was that method I used to take ownership. A very useful right click option.
