I may have deleted stuff in the registry (Win 7)

Hello:

I may have deleted stuff in the registry that I should not have. I tried to delete everything with "Microsoft Office 2000" in it, but may have deleted some other stuff too. I now have some problems, but I am not sure what they are (it's a little here and a little there), so I would like to ask a general question:

I have run the startup repair option in Windows 7. But what I can't find is a feature with which I can replace/repair system files that may have been deleted or corrupted. I do not have any restore points, in spite of the documentation saying that they are created automatically (that is another problem for me). Inparticular, Windows INtaller (5.0 in Windows 7) might have been 'hurt'.

So, to start, what can I do to check system file integrity?

Thank you very much!

Hans L

Did you backup the registry before you deleted? Did you use a registry cleaner and did it back up the registry?

Why not just do a System Restore to before you made those changes? Very simple fix.

If System File Checker does not find files to repair and the problem persists, then in the absence of restore points (Turn System Protection on now) you can run a Repair Install to reinstall the OS while saving all of your programs, files and settings in place. You just have to activate again afterwards.

I did this. No problems showed up. That was all I needed to know in this particular case.

Thank you all for your help!
