    File association problem

My pdf file was originally associated with Foxit Reader. For some unknown reason, it's stubbornly opened with windows media center, and cannot be changed. I tried editing this in Control panel, but it didn't work. Then, I installed Adobe reader 8.0, and after several rebootings of the machine, it seemed to work. Now there are two programs in the open with list: Adobe pdf reader and the foxit reader, and the default program is foxit reader although Adobe is the first one in the list. Here's my problem: when I tried to change the default program, the "always open with this program" is grey (uneditable). What can be done? Any suggestion is appreciated.

    Hello Timothy,

As long as it is opening PDF files with Foxit Reader by default, then you are good to go and do not need to do anything else. When you use Open With, it will always show your available options in alphabetical order no matter what your actual default program is. :)

    Hope this helps,
    Shawn

Thanks for the reply, Brink. What if I were to uninstall abobe reader? I fear it will revert to the mess.

It's always nice when it fixes itself for you.

You shouldn't have a problem uninstalling Adobe Reader if you like since Foxit Reader is set as the default.
