Can't find a .xls file that I downloaded from my email

I downloaded and .xls file from my email, worked on the file and then clicked save. I did not save as. I cannot find this document anywhere. I tried downloading it again to save it to see where it would go but it says sharing violation (presumably because the folder it is being saved in already has the file). My assumption is it is in some temporary file somewhere (though why I can't access it under recent files I have no clue).
Can someone please tell me where to look for this file, I have tried searching on the name but no avail.

Thanks!
