Any know why sleep would cause disk not to come up?

I have been using hibernate and switched to sleep but when I come out of sleep my G drive is gone. I can get it back on a reboot. Does not happen on hibernate. G and F drives are both 640 GB Western Digital. I have 4 drives and they are all WDC.

Anyone have any idea what would cause this?

Windows XP - Now Windows 7 Home Premium (64-bit).

I take it these are all external drives -- plug and play?

It appears large SATA drives take a while. If you are using the Windows 7 default sata drivers, try switching to those specific to your manufacturer.

Also, there is a hotfix from MS for similar issues.

You receive various Stop error messages in Windows 7 or in Windows Server 2008 R2 when you try to resume a computer that has a large SATA hard disk

Hello Terry,

In addition, I get this as well every once on a blue moon. I usually can get them back by putting the computer back to sleep and waking it up again. It can save you a bit of time instead of restarting the computer until a solution is found.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

No, these are internal drives.

Shawn, I tried that but my G drive consistently does not show up unless I reboot. My G and F drives are exactly the same, 640 GB Western Digital.

Terry,

You might also check to make sure that you have the latest chipset and SATA driver versoins installed for your motherboad to see if that may help.

If your BIOS has a setting in Advanced settings for Delay for HDD - set it to 3 seconds or 5...
