Windows 7: Locked taskbar masks program's status bar when maximize

I keep my taskbar locked on the bottom of the screen. I just noticed that when I maximize programs their status bar is hidden behind the task bar. This has not been the case with any other versions of windows. I'm sure that it is some customization option that I need to select but I don't know where. Suggestions?



I did a search and saw someone else had a similar request but the answers were about unlocking the task bar. I just want my programs to maximize to the taskbar.
