Windows 7 - Windows Close Down Problem |

Windows Close Down Problem Everytime I closed down or resarted [Windows 7] I got a message saying "1 or more programmes are still running, do you want to force shutdown?"
I followed this step-by-step instruction; Beyond Tecknology: Fix the “programs still need to close” problem in Windows 7
Is this safe to do and what does it actually do reducing it to 1000, will it build up errors, or is it just a superficial adjustment?
Any help is appreciated | My System Specs

Hi Mr Brightside, welcome to SF basically changing that number will merely change how much time windows waits before automatically killing a "hung" process when you click shutdown, 1000ms=1 second
i get that myself a bit, even when there isnt anything open, it shouldn't do any damage, in fact, here is a tutorial from our very own Brink showing an easy way to set it to 2 seconds: Shut Down -Speed Up | My System Specs | | OS Windows 7 Ultimate X64 SP1 CPU Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-2500K CPU @ 3.30GHz Motherboard Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-2500K CPU @ 3.30GHz Memory 8GB 1333Mhz DDR3 Graphics Card NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460 Sound Card Realtek Monitor(s) Displays Acer Al1980, Screen Resolution 1360*768 Keyboard Alba USB Mouse IT Works Wireless USB PSU 750W Novatech Case Novatech ATX Case Cooling Cooler Master Hyper TX3 Hard Drives 500GB SATA WBC

It's actually not a big deal, at all, sometimes it just takes longer than Windows likes to close an application. Now, if your system is hanging for more than 10 seconds waiting, then maybe address the "application", not windows settings. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number HPE-112y Custom + Custom Build OS HP Win7 Pro x64 | Custom Win7 Pro x64 CPU HP PhII X4 965 Black Ed. 3.4Ghz | PhII X6 1100T 3.3/3.7 Motherboard OEM HP | ASUS Crosshair IV Extreme 890FX Memory 8GB DDR3 1333 OC Black Edition x2 Graphics Card HP XFX Radeon HD4890 1GB | AMD Radeon HD 6990 Sound Card Realtek 7.1 Digital HDMI x2 Monitor(s) Displays HP 20" 1680x1050 LCD | Samsung 23" 2ms 1920x1200 LED Screen Resolution 1680x1050 + 1920x1200 & HDTV for Gaming/TV Keyboard HP G15 | G19 Mouse G500 x2 PSU Thermaltake Black Widow 850watt Modular x2 Case HP HPE- 112y OEM Modded | Custom Xclio A380S Cooling HP Antec120mm | Custom Antec 360mm/250mm/200mm/120mm Hard Drives 1TB WD "Green" 5,400 RPM SCSI W/ AMD RAID/Xpert

Hello Mr Brightside,
If you want to shutdown ASAP try " Superfast Shutdown " Download Super Fast Shutdown, Super Fast Shutdown 2.0 Download
This utility is working for Windows 7 Home Pro. It shuts down in Under 5 seconds
depending on what is currently running.
I assume that this utility bypasses the save data function so if you have any
data which is not saved it may be lost. I have been using it for
two weeks without any problems.
I have tried similar programs in the past which have created problems, but
Superfast has not created any errors.
Hope this helps

No offense, but I must highly recommend against doing that. Let windows do it's job.

Peace I agree if your talking about the "superfast shutdown" thing... if its the same one i used before there is no shutdown process, it just fires the "switch off" command to the PC, which is NOT good for either your hardware or your OS, changing the "kill" time does no harm though, it just makes it a bit snappier shutting down because programs dont have as long before windows forces it to close | My System Specs | | OS Windows 7 Ultimate X64 SP1 CPU Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-2500K CPU @ 3.30GHz Motherboard Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-2500K CPU @ 3.30GHz Memory 8GB 1333Mhz DDR3 Graphics Card NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460 Sound Card Realtek Monitor(s) Displays Acer Al1980, Screen Resolution 1360*768 Keyboard Alba USB Mouse IT Works Wireless USB PSU 750W Novatech Case Novatech ATX Case Cooling Cooler Master Hyper TX3 Hard Drives 500GB SATA WBC

Hello everyone, thanks for your replys!
So the majority of you are saying its okay, thats good enough for me, as long as I don't build up errors by shortening the kill time! | My System Specs

Then you can see if it is a program you can live without and uninstall it. If you need it you can see if there is a new version or report the problem to the software vendor so they can fix it. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Dell OP760 OS Windows 7 Enterprise (x64); Windows Server 2008 R2 (x64) Memory 8GB Monitor(s) Displays 2 Dell 19" LCD Screen Resolution 1280x1024 Keyboard Dell Mouse Dell Optical Internet Speed 40meg |

The programme that was still open everytime I tried to close down was something along the lines of "Explore, playing sound"
