How did you go about renaming the admin account? You have Vista, i think, and you need to do it through the Local security policy.

In either case, you can rename the Administrator account using the steps listed below.

Built-in Administrator Account - Change Name
    1. Click Start and click Control Panel.
    2. Click System and Maintenance, Administrative Tools and then the Local Security Policy.
    3. Within the console, expand Local Policies.
    4. Click Security Options. The various security options are displayed in the details pane.
    5. Double click Accounts: Rename Administrator Account.
    6. Type in the new account name and Click OK.

Hello CoryMom, and welcome to Seven Forums.

When you change a user account's name (administrator or standard) through User Accounts in the Control Panel, then the old name and new name are permanently tied to that user account and neither can be used by another account. A new account will have a different name than any name ever used by any other user account on the computer.

The only way around this, is to delete the old account with the names tied to it that you want for a new account, then create a new account with the name.

    Hope this helps,
    Shawn
