    Unallocated Space Issue

I am dual-booting Windows 7 and Debian Linux. I created a new partition, about 100gb. It says unallocated. I tried to allocate it, make it into something I can actually use, but it says I've reached the maximum number of partitions on Disk1. I tried to delete it and it won't let me. It is wasting 100gb that I cannot use at all. I tied to put something on it so I could delete it. Nothing would go on it, said it was unusable. How can I delete it? Is there a way? I don't like wasting 100gb of hdd space.

    All help appreciated,

What are you trying to delete it with? the built in win 7? How many partitions do you have on that HD?

How many partitions are there on the disk? Can you post a screenshot of your Disk management view?

    Here:

Drive C: is the one with too many partitions. Disk 0 is the one with the unallocated space that will not go away.

Ahh, I know what's the problem...

I bet your HDD is initialized using MBR style partition. MBR can only contain 4 partition max, may it be all 4 primary partition, or 3 primary partition and 1 extended partition. Either you expand the "C:" partition, or delete one of the partitions and create an Extended partition in it's place.

    Hi,

    You can't delete unallocated space.

You could delete the 95gb and the 2.5 gd partitions.

Then you would have about 200gb unallocated.

You could then make 2 partitions of 100gb each, or however you want to split up that 200gb or so total unallocated space.

If you really want another partition on that drive - you would need to get rid of the 100mb system reserved, or make an extended partition and split that into logical drives.
