    Why is Windows reporting AMD64?

My processor is a Intel Core 2 duo CPU E8400 and I'm running Windows 7 Pro 64-bit and XP mode. The motherboard uses Intel ICH10 Southbridge.

Device manager shows the correct processor.

However several times when using either Windows tools or other tools I see AMD64 mentioned as the processor type. This surely cannot be correct?

AMD64 is the 64-bit technology that runs 64-bit mode for modern OSs....

It is showing as AMD64 cause that is the modern 64-bit execution mode that everyone uses

It is called AMD64 cause AMD readily developed it....not cause you have an AMD processor

'It is called AMD64 because AMD was the first with a working 64-bit chip with those specifications that could also run older 32-bit code. The original 64-bit Intel chip I think was called IA64 with a different instruction set which could not run 32-bit PC code.' (link)
