unhide system file and Documents and Settings

Hi

today i was in a store , and i played with a pc,with windows 7

well the option was hide system file and i can't see the folder Documents and Settings

i set the option to unhide system file and again i can't see the folder Documents and Settings

now on my pc , i can see Documents and Settings , i know it's a point the view folder to user


now my question , a clean install of w7(in a black hard disk ,brand new or without any partition ) with the option unhide system file , should w7 show Documents and Settings ?

The My Documents and Settings is not a folder used by Windows Seven. It is what is called a junction point. If you have "Hide protected operating system files" unchecked, then you will see these junction points. It is intended that users have no access to these junction points. It is best to leave them hidden

Longer answer: In Windows 7, Documents and Settings is not a folder. It is a junction point, a link to Users folder (C:\Users). Because it is a system folder, you have to check that the feature Hide protected operating system files is turned off in Folder Options > View.

thanks but maybe i was not clear

on my pc i have 2 hard disk
1) with windows 7
2) the second hard disk with xp
with UNHide protected operating system files i can see Documents and Settings


in the computer shop, the pc i used ha sonly 1 hard disk with windows 7 (no xp installed)
and with UNHide protected operating system files I can't see Documents and Settings


the point is w7 show Documents and Settings only if there is xp installed on the pc?

No, drugo, whether XP is also installed on the computer makes no difference at all.

As Rich and Kari said, in Windows 7 Documents and Settings is not a real folder, just a link. On your own system you are probably an administrator and thus can see everything there is in your system, including the hidden links (should you choose not to hide system files and folders). In the shop you are most probably not an administrator. As a user with limited privileges it would not be surprising that you would not be able to see hidden files and links.

So, the answer to our original question was already posted - Windows 7 will show Documents and Settings if you choose not to hide the protected system files.

The second question - why do you not see Documents and Settings in the shop - you could ask there if you really care, but most likely it is due to the restrictions on whatever account they have set up for customers. After all, they would not allow you to change all the passwords on that PC, right?

did you test on a clean install of w7 without others os?
