    how to refresh taskbar icons?

    hi,
i have a program pinned to the taskbar.
the program is located on a usb stick. if i start windows and the drive is not connected i get a generic icon because it is not found. how can i refresh the icon so that it is displayed properly?

    thanks : )

EDIT: sorry, i guess that was a bit confusing. I mean of course "how can i refresh the icon once the stick is plugged in again in case it was not connected a boottime"

Why did you put the program on the usb stick and why don't you put it on the pc. Just asking to make it easy though. by the way try reloading icon cache

i think tapping f5 on the desktop when you put the USB stick in will do it, i cant remember if that also refreshes the taskbar though

Install the program on your system drive... How do you expect the correct icon to be displayed if the USB drive is not plugged in???

well, i would have figured that out by myself.... ; )
it's a portable prog and i use it on different machines. i don't want a local copy because i'd have to manually update configurations and saved files on each machine.

i also dont expect that it show the icon if it's not connected... that's why i asked how to REFRESH it. that means of course once the drive is CONNECTED

thanks for the F5 hint... but that does not refresh the icons though : )

EDIT: btw... the correct icon DOES show up sometimes after a while - sometimes a few hours. But i have no idea what triggers it

    thanks, i found a workaround...

i just extracted the icon, placed it somewhere on the hd and changed the properties of to shortcut to point to the local icon
