Myth? : Ultimate faster than Professional?

We have a little debate that I'd like to put to rest: Windows 7 Ultimate (or Vista Ultimate for that matter) runs faster than the Professional or Home Premium editions. I believe this is not true. Ultimate will not run faster; it just comes with more stuff. A computer would run the same with either Professional or Ultimate, assuming all the same services/programs were running on them.

Am I correct about this? I'm 99.9% sure I am.

Correct. Different SKUs include or remove features based upon their level, but none of those features affect performance or speed of the OS itself. If anything, I could possibly see the lesser SKUs performing better due to unnecessary stuff not being present, but that's probably not the case either.

More features = more dll's to load, more services to run, more space on disk needed. Common sense really innit :)

Being basic or ultimate has no bearing on the performance of the os. The differences lie the services that they have to offer eg aero, media center, bit locker etc etc, so now you can rid yourself of the 00.09% doubt that you have:).

Thanks for the replies, everyone. It seemed logical to me but the other person was somewhat insistent.

yah but you fail to relize that EVERYTHING is installed even in starter
for the ease of use f anytime upgrade..

so the disk space saveing is ezacly 0

but the performiance f unused dlls or servaces is negligable at best
