Windows 7 - has anyone bought Windows 7 as a student for £45

i was going to buy anouther copy of 7 this time Pro edition as im a student i can get it for £45 and i wanted to know has anyone done this already if so how does it work if i order the hard copy of it does it come in the box with the key? or is the key emailed sepreatly. also can i use it on more than one PC as i need to use it on 2?

You may only use the key on one computer ... any more will require a purchase of an additional key....

You will be emailed the key, DVD will come in the post.

Yep, Tews is correct. Windows 7 comes with one key meaning it can be installed on one computer only. You can only purchase one copy of Windows 7 at the student pricing. The FAQs here should answer all of your questions - Microsoft UK Education - Home - Ultimate Steal

thats what i dont like about microsoft why should i have to pay for additinal keys i payed for the product there should not be a limit of just 1 pc at least 3 and i know some will say to stop it being copied is why but i payed for it i should be allowed to use it on all my PC's not just one. but anyway what do i do if i have to reinstall the whole operting system as key can only be used once what do i do then? as it would have been used once already.

If you wipe your hard drive, you will have no problems re-installing/activating your OS... but you cant activate the same key on more than one computer at a time...

The student upgrade key works like a Retail key. So you will probably need to Activate Windows 7 by Phone on subsequent installs, particularly if there is significant hardware change such as change of mobo or hard drive. You should know that only one system can be activated at any time with a single key. If more than one system using the same key is online at the same time, the key may be black-listed.

A better option is to image your system using either the inbuilt windows backup utility or apps like Macrium Reflect or Acronis. There is a Macrium reflect tutorial on this forum. Check in the tutorials section. Image your system when you have tuned it the way you like with all your apps installed. Then, when you want to, you can just restore from the image, no reactivation required.

I purchased the student pro version from Digitalriver. They made me run circles for the disk. Ultimately, the matter had to be escalated to MS and they sent me the disk, a full 2 months after ordering! So be careful, where you buy from.

i had my old vista key used on 3 of my pc's at a time b4 now and that worked fine and was never black listed thouh and im sure that was for one pc as well.

I'm sorry to say that amounts to "piracy", "theft of intellectual property right" and "violation of EULA (purchase agreement)". You dont like MS's corporate policies, dont buy their products. Simple.
