it will run fine just use basic theme for best response rate i have it installed on the following old pcs

Pentium 4 HT Prescott 3.6ghz
3gb DDR400
Geforce 5950GT

and
2x Cpus Athlon64 2ghz
ATI radeon 9550 AGP
4gb DDR2 533

and they work great but i am using them as file and storage servers

for more speed you can also try a USB Readyboost USB key 1 - 2 - 4GB sticks and reduces HDD thrashing

Thanks a lot for the response. With that in mind i am also thinking about installing the 64-bit version of windows 7. With my laptop's performance it says that it is possible, however do you think it will be beneficial. And if so what are the major differences that I will see??

you only have 3gb ram but if your planning on going 64bit then install it or stay with 32bit if your not going to use 64bit games/Apps

it would run just fine! i ran windows 7 on a laptop with lower specs! i would rather install 32bit than 64bit!

Agreed. Take notice that the 64-Bit edition uses a High Amount of Memory in its processes.

I had been an owner of a dv2000 (dv2000 to dv9000 are very similar) and i can tell you that 64bit drivers can be a little harder to find! and some drivers are not designed for 64bit so we have to borrow from other models!

by the way, there is a graphics defect with this range of models (black screen with led's on) and that can be hard to fix! I had to get my motherboard replaced! luckily HP repaired it for free 6 months after warranty as it was a known issue! but you may not be so lucky :(

Your laptop will run it just fine, even with Aero enabled. You're hard drive will be the weakest point, since it is only a 4200 rpm drive. Unless you see yourself upgrading the RAM to 4 GB, I wouldn't bother with x64 at this point.

I agree with others, unless you are trying to run applications/games built spefically for 64-bit Windows, I'd probably stick to 32-bit :) Here are some FAQs RE: 32-bit and 64-bit Windows to help you decide - 32-bit and 64-bit Windows: frequently asked questions
