Hello peoples...nice forums and a huge TIA goes out to any and all...lolz. A little backround re: me and how I found this forum. I was one of the many who decided to pass on Vista and wait for the 'finished product' that is W7. Similar to what Windows 2000/ME was to XP...for the most part XP is/was just a fit, finished, and polished version of Windows 2000. But no matter how you look at it, I have a slightly steeper learning curve ahead of me than most since I decided to skip Vista.
Also did the same vs the 2nd 'generation' SSDs and stuck with my gen1 Apex...No cache, No TRIM and crappy 4k random write speeds thanx to the infamous JMicron controller from hell..but it was 'MY' crappy drive!! Lmao. Then came the Vertex/Agility line (Indilinx based) also without TRIM or self cleaning 'garbage collection' during idle times. Ofc all that was eventually fixed/added by a series of FW updates now @ ver 1.6. I decided to sit that one out like I did Vista, except in this case the Vertex turned out to be a little gem in the end. So after a bit of a wait, along comes the SandForce based Vertex 2/Agility2/LE drives. Ofc after doing my homework' ...something I didn't do before buying my Apex with the crap 4k writes...I jumped on a 50GB Vertex 2 after passing on the first SF based drive to hit the market, the Limited Edition Vertex.
All that leads to where I'm at now...switching to Win7 (with zero experience on Vista) so my new hot rod SSD can make use of the TRIM command that XP lacks, and also going to 64bit so I can actually 'use' all 4GB of memory vs 3.25 w/ 32bit. So there I was, installing a new OS on a 3rd gen. SSD...I just 'thought' I was happy at first. After about 10-12hrs I was waaay beyond being 'happy' with the new setup. I knew what to expect from the SF based Vertex 2, but Win7 put a HUGE smile on my face once I realized how just how 'right' they go it! The more I learned about W7, the bigger the smile got. Heh, ended up pulling an all-nighter just getting to know things in Win7 and in my quest for answers, I kept finding myself back at this forum! That's about all it took for me to bookmark and register at this place.
This is easily, hands down, the best W7 oriented forum that I've found...and I looked at a boat load too. So it looks like you all will be seeing me as another regular before long. When I find something this good (and useful), I tend to stick around. Most likely you'll see me posting more whenever the topic is SSD related, but don't worry, I realize there is more to a good system than just an SSD...but not much!!
