Can I get ride of Pinning option?

    Hello all

New to Windows 7 and am learning but one thing I really hate is this pinned option thing.

Is there anyway to remove that as a option from right clicking of the taskbar icon menu?

    Thanks

    Yes, don't pin it there.

By pinning, however, you get a full history of the Word, IE, etc. program's use by rightclicking.

I find it the place to pin freq used programs, leaving active files to the desktop.

Greg is right, you don't have to pin items to the taskbar, it is your choice. I choose to pin items to the taskbar because I like to use the aero peek feature to see thumbnails of each item :)

I use the pinning feature, too. I think that if you give it a try, you will really begin to like it. It is a nice feature.

You can unpin everything currently pinned, and avoid pinning in the future. But I don't believe there is a way to remove it from the right-click menu.

To be honest its not so much the trouble that there is a Pin possible from everything but more it's that is can be un-pinned so easily.

Bout the only two things I want pinned are Windows Explorer an Control panel an both of those are shortcuts that are specially stringed so that they open things the way I want.

But in my haste I know I will, and already have, accidentally hit the unpin option, especially as since the Windows Explorer taskbar icon covers that shortcut now and to open another window I have to right click it, and then if I hit unpin, I loose the whole shortcut and have to make is all over again.

Tell you what Win 7 sure has a lot more clicking for silly reasons to do the same thing XP did with less.

Nothing worse I hate then differences just for the sake of change so it doesn't seem like a paid for fixing of things that should have been just been done right in the first place.

Yeah, I fairly often accidentally unpin in my quickness to open a new window of an app (Firefox) and have to pin it again. But I realize I just have to be more careful with what I'm doing.

This pretty much sums up my Win 7 experience.

Have a look through this thread for a way to remove the option from your context menu. It might not address your concern directly but looks like a good place to start.

I definitely prefer the quicklaunch toolbar.

It is EXACTLY the same as the XP version. Pinning is too extravagant for my needs (I want to use it to open a program, and when the program is open it turns into the bar, so I have to right click to open a new one, etc.)
