Old icon file reappearing Hi all
I am having problems copying an icon file from one location to another. Sounds simple I know but what happening is extremely weird. The destination folder had a previous icon file with the same name which I deleted. However when I copy the new icon across, the old icon file appears. If I change the icon name it copies across ok.
I'm assuming that Windows 7 keeps a cached copy of the folders contents somewhere so
I've tried doing a disk cleanup, clearing the thumbnail cache and restarted my PC but to no avail.
Any ideas??
I'm using Windows 7 Enterprise 64-bit | My System Specs |

Try ccleaner, it should work. Make a system restore point first. http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner
If that does not work, try this Non-Existent Icon Stuck on Desktop - Can't Delete | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Dell XPS 420 OS Windows 7 Home Premium SP1, clean install, upgrade disc CPU Intel Core2 processsor Q8200(2.33Ghz 1333FSB) Quad Core Tech Motherboard Dell Memory 6 gb Graphics Card ATI Radeon 256MB HD3650 Sound Card Intergrated 7.1 Channel Audio Monitor(s) Displays Dell SP2009W 20" Keyboard Dell USB Keyboard Mouse Dell Premium Optical USB Cooling Fan Hard Drives 640 GB Serial ATA Hard drive Internet Speed DSL 2.85 |

Thanks for the help !!
I tried ccleaner and the info from that link but since the file has not been left redundant from an install, it didn't work.
I've already cleared the thumbnail cache so no thumb.db file exists for the destination folder or source folder.
This is so bizarre !! I've restarted several times and done a full disk cleanup and still, when I move this icon file to the destination folder, the old icon file replaces it. I've tested this in other folders (and even the desktop) where i've deleted an existing icon file and copied across a new one with the same name and it still happens. | My System Specs | | OS Windows 7 Enterprise 64 bit |

or just delete the folder and create a new one! | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Dell Inspiron 1440, Apple macbook pro OS Windows 7 32bit, Snow leopard CPU Intel Core 2 Duo 2.2GHz Motherboard IDK LOL Memory 2GB DDR2 RAM Graphics Card Intel GMA X4500MHD Sound Card NONE Monitor(s) Displays 14" WLED-backlit display :: resolution 1366x768 PSU Stock Case Stock Cooling Stock Hard Drives 320GB HDD |

Try deleting the old icon file in safe mode.
If that doesnt work, try taking ownership of the file, then delete. Take Ownership Shortcut | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Too many to describe... OS Windows 7 x64 pro/ Windows 7 x86 Pro/ XP SP3 x86 |

OK...problem solved. In the properties of the destination folder I selected Customise and optimised this folder for General Items. This refreshed explorer and the problem went away. I tried copying the file to other folders where I had re-created the problem after this and everything was ok.
I'm not sure what exactly that optimisation did but it worked.
Thanks for the help guys !! | My System Specs | | OS Windows 7 Enterprise 64 bit |
