Win 7 7100 has several known problems. also there are several "Pirated" versions that are filled with TROJANs and other Virus. which will not allow the system to shutdown, so it can be used as a "BOT"

RECOMMEND YOU TRY THIS:
start --> cmd--> run as admin --> type
shutdown.exe -s -t 000 --> enter and see if this will force the shutdown procedure. It should. then you can click blank space on desktop. create a shortcut... enter the shutdown script.... change the icon to (your preference). now it is simply 2x click away. on your desktop

thanks for trying to help. my windows 7 version is straight from microsft's webpage. I did the command you told me to and it acted just as I have been describing, everything seems to shutdown but my computer stays on.

I was not able to put my computer to sleep the first night.

after a shut down it is all good now though.

Try a power cycle. Power down the system. if it doesn't shutdown like you said. pull the cord out of the PSU for over 10 seconds and let it all calm down. and return it on. see if that helps.

Almost certainly down to the network adaptor settings.

Hi I have exactly the same issue. I think it is an issue with the Asus motherboard, maybe an ACPI driver.

It's your computer's way of coping with the experience that is windows 7, it needs a minute to realize what just happened to it before shutting down.

That is very possible. I have an Asus P5B-E mobo. Im still having the problem. Luckily the random memory dumps I used to get have stopped. Pretty much I would get them whenever I was trying to use old/previous files in 7 (small things like transferring saved bookmarks over).

Where do we report this. I thought in Windows 7 there would be a report a bug option. I have looked on a couple of forums and a few people have this issue.

Open Task Manager and see what's running in "Processes" before you try to shut down your machine. It could be Internet Explorer, your Antivirus, or some other process that's unwilling to let it shut down at the moment.
