Revert back to Windows 7 Professional

I have Win 7 Home Premium installed and I want to upgrade to Professional. Can I revert back to Home Premium?

You may be able to but why? Pro just adds features to what home premium has doesn't remove any.

Hello rdwray, welcome to Seven Forums!

Once you have upgraded to "Pro" you'll have to do a clean install to go back to Home P, have a look at the tutorial at the link below.

Thanks, for the info. The reason for the question is that I have a Dell which came with the OEM version and I have dual booted Win 7. I want to use the XP mode for some old software (Office 2000, etc) and if it doesn't work, I was going back to Premium.

    Other Options:

    1) Consider shrinking HP, then creating and formatting a new partition for Pro using its installer. This will create for you a temporary test partition for your purposes.

    2) Normally when you upgrade between Win7 versions you must use Anytime Upgrade, however you can adapt a workaround to do an in-place Upgrade and later even use it to downgrade from Pro to HP.

To do this, adapt this workaround by precisely changing only the two registry keys shown, which make the installer think it is doing an (always allowed) Repair Install: Upgrade the Windows 7 RC to any retail version « Icrontic Tech Activation will be reset so you can use the new Product Key.
