Hello Jeremy, and welcome to Seven Forums.
The watermark is there since Windows 7 is still not a retail version and is still in testing, hence the evaluation copy watermark.
There are hacks out there that can remove the watermark, but I would strongly advise against using them. They usually will cause Compatibility Mode to no longer work properly, and can cause other unknown quirks.
Hope this helps,

Hi Jeremy, first of all that is there because you are meant to be evaluating the OS and reporting any bugs you find to Microsoft and you can find hacks around that will remove the watermark but most of those cause big problems elsewhere, so it would be advisable to leave it alone.
Plus one other thing to mention is that the Oficial RC1 is available to download now and you can get it here. http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-7/default.aspx | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Home Brew OS Windows 7 Ultimate Vista Ultimate x64 CPU Core 2 Duo E8500 3.16Ghz @ 3.8Ghz Motherboard eVGA 750i FTW Memory 2x2Gigs Patriot PC2-6400 LL Graphics Card Inno3D GeForce GTX260 216 SP Monitor(s) Displays ASUS VW222U 22" 2ms Response time Screen Resolution 1680x1050 Keyboard Logitech G15 Gaming Keyboard Mouse Logitech G9 Gaming Mouse PSU HYTEC 600W & Thermaltake 650W Toughpower Power Exp Case Thermaltake Armor LCS (Liquid Cooling System) Cooling Liquid Cooling System Hard Drives SATA 150GB

The latest iteration of user32.dll.mui (the file responsible for the watermark) has changed from 7077 and prior versions so many of these 'patches' will no longer work - if they ever did at all. It's a *very* bad idea to run any of these because I can confirm they *will* glitch many elements of the OS' interface (missing boxes, text, etc...) Live with it until a 'safe' way to remove it has been revealed. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Custom Build/Mod OS Windows 7 Home Premium x64 7600 [MSDN] CPU Intel QX9650 Extreme 5.0 GHz Motherboard ASUS Rampage Extreme Rev2 Memory 8GB (4x2) Corsair Dominator DDR3 Graphics Card 2x Sapphire Radeon HD4870X2 (QuadFire) Sound Card SupremeFX X-Fi Monitor(s) Displays Dell 2408WFP 24" Panel Screen Resolution 1920x1200 Keyboard Logitech Mouse Logitech PSU Corsair HX1000 Case CoolerMaster - Cosmos S Cooling Custom Liquid - 320mm rad w/ 3x 80mm fans, CPU/NB/SB Blocks Hard Drives 4x WD Caviar Black 640GB (2TB+ Total)

I've used one called "Remove7Watermark.exe". Its a script compressed into an executable and it has always worked for me. It creates a backup of the user32.dll.mui that it changes. After installing the RC last week, I used it on just one of my Windows 7 computers to make sure it didn't cause any problems. So far its been fine. It is NOT one of the all in one hacks from Orbital30. All it does is remove the watermark. Your mileage may vary! | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Dell / Studio xps OS Windows7 x64 7600 16385 CPU Intel I7 920 Motherboard Dell Memory 6GB DDR3 Graphics Card ATI Radeon HD4350 Sound Card Integrated 7.1 channel Keyboard Logitech EX110 Mouse Logitech LX8 Hard Drives Hitachi HDT721064SLA360 (596 GB) |
