Well everyone that's what it was, I had changed the Folder options.

Once I read the tutorial it jogged my memory that I did go into folder options, and made the change to show all hidden files.

I followed step 5 clicked on apply, and poof they disappeared.

There have been times since my DOS, and 3.1 days that I like to see what's behind the "curtain".

If I get in too deep I have always followed my brother's advice “When in doubt, cancel out”, and read up and learn before I would try to go any further, but I have only been with the win7 OS since March and it sure is different.

I have my older OS (XP pro sp3) set to show hidden folders/files, and it never throwed Icons on to the desktop like what happened here.

    I would like to thank:
    • Lordbob75 for identifying shortcut or actual file.
    • richc46 for steering me to the tutorial.
    • severedsolo for narrowing down the type of file, and
    • CarlTR6 for confirmation.
For helping me figure out what was going on with those desktop Icons, you'll see somethin' extra in your rep, and I will report this one solved.

    Anak

    Edit:
richc46 I must of given you rep before, becuse it won't let me add to yours. I'll have to check the limit.

Well thanks Anak! Good to hear to figured it out, though it seems to me that the desktop should not be displaying hidden files (mine doesn't!).
If you are happy as is, great! If not, we can try to figure out exactly why those are there.

If we mark it solved you will not know how to do it when you return and we want you back to share or to get information

On the upper right of the screen there is a pyramid, click on it and type solved.

Glad that we could help. And thank for the rep.

I'm happy as is, but it is courious. The only thing I can figure is it was some type of interaction when I was using those two programs.

Maybe we better leave sleeping dogs lie..........If it crops up again, I'll start a new thread.

No nothing there, but thats ok. Helping you is our real satisfaction.
If you want, though, just click on the scales upper right (looks like a snow flake)
You must give it to each one separately.

Anak, thank you for the rep. But more importantly, you learned and solved your problem. That is the best outcome. Good job.
