    Flickering screen problem on laptop

    Hi,

I have new Asus laptop with Intel 4500MHD graphics card and recently have some problems with screen under Windows 7 64bit. I was messing with color calibration and i get back to standard calibration, but now, when i switch windows/panels/anything (for example from bright to dark color) screen is messing colors - it's hard to describe, i see the pixels are moving for 1 sec. Sometimes it looks similar to changing brightness of screen. When i open picture with gradient i see pixels (colors) are "moving" and after 1 second it stops. I don't think it's graphic card related because under Linux everything looks fine.

    Thanks for any ideas.

You don't typically see this kind of thing on a flat-panel display but you might want to go into the display settings and change the refresh rate just to see if it has any effect.

I've just found by accident that when i plug in ac adapter it stops from flickering so it must be somehow power management related... Changing refresh rate doesn't change anything.

Actually, it may not be "power-management" at all. If the flicker appears when on battery alone it may simply be a failing battery!

I don't think so because it's a new laptop (5 months) and as i said on linux problem don't exist :)

I've found a cause. It was caused by graphic card, it has some weird options for power saving which i turned off so now it's working like a charm :)

    Anyway thanks for sugestions!

Intel cards have some weird options for power saving. I just turned them off and flickering gone. I don't know however how could you turn it of on ATI card. You should try searching under control center of graphic card.

    Flickering Screen Problem (brightness fluctuation)

    Thank for reply!
I couldn't find anything on ATI card, but my computer switches from ATI to intel when it is on power saving performance. What I am thinking is that somehow the intel is getting into the way causing this flicker on high performance. The only thing that i don't understand how to switch it of on intel card like you said you did. I read other peoples responses on the net and some had instructions, but when I try on my PC the menu functions are totally different, for example there is a power setting in the intel's control but there is no feature to disable or enable it.
