    some windows 7 questions

I've just got a new laptop with windows 7 home premium. All along I've been running winxp pro on my old desktop so I'm having some tough time adjusting to win 7.

1)Any tips to speed up win 7?

    2) Some of the chinese characters in my songs can't be displayed properly. Anyway to comfortably display both english and chinese languages? I never had this issue in winxp pro.

    thanks dude !

I tried most of the tips that were stated, however when I check my task manager, it seems my available memory has been reduced drastically by about half, is there any cause for alarm?

Btw what do you mean by cached and available memory? My total available memory= available memory thats stated in the task manager or cached+available memory?

The best tweaking tip for Windows 7 is to leave it alone. Use the system as you normally would, and let it optimize itself.

Have a look in Resource Monitor > Memory tab. That will give you a more precise picture than task manager (the colored bar). Grey, green and orange is actively used, dark blue is cached and light blue is unused. Both dark blue and light blue are "available" memory.

I've around 261MB of memory for hardware reserved. I've asked around and I've been told my video card could be using the additional memory and I could turn it off in BIOS. However, when I went into BIOS, I couldn't find any option to adjust the memory.

Hello axlrose85, welcome to Seven Forums!

If the motherboard has an in-built graphics chip you cannot do anything about it using RAM as that's just how it works, the only option is to add a separate video card (if the mobo is capable) that will have it's own RAM to use.
