Windows 7: Aero-winlogon conflict

Win7 7201 X64
Aero-winlogon conflict

Perhaps someone can give me a hand here...this issue is driving me insane!

I have Win7 7100 x64 running on a HP Pavillion dv9000 laptop:

AMD Turion 64 X2 TL-52 1.60 Ghz
NVIDIA Chipset based board
NVIDIA GeForce Go 6150 GFX

There's nothing missing in the device manager, all drivers appear to be correctly installed.

Now, what happens is the minute I enable Aero something happens to Windows Logon. When I shut down/restart the computer I can see Windows Logon being forcefully shut down before the machine does.
When I log back onto windows my screen turns black during the welcome screen and I can see the desktop only once login has completed.

There's obviously something going wrong there, however strangely enough I can find no reference of this conflict in the event viewer...

It took 3 OS re installations for me to finally figure out where the problem was until I finally nailed it.

At the beginning I thought this may be GFX driver related so I tried a more recent one than the driver picked up by WU. The new driver ( was installed using a modded inf kindly provided by laptop2go forums (original inf did not pick up my card).

In any case, unfortunately this did not help, when I disable Aero everything goes back to normal. Re enabling causes winlogon issues immediately

Any ideas??

Hi netRAT, welcome to the forums.

You could try here - Drivers - Download NVIDIA Drivers - to see if the Autodetect picks anything up for you Motherboard & graphics card.

@Home/Work: Windows 8.1 Enterprise x64

I've the same issue with my notebook. I've just installed RC in my Acer Aspire 4520 who have GeForce 7000M on an nForce 630 chipset and got the same problem.
I'll try installing drivers from nVIDIA instead of the Windows Update's one.
I'll be back with my results...
Thanks, Orbital Shark! ^_^

PS: Forgot something... this problem seems to be related only with nVIDIA video, both on-board, AGP and PCI-Express cards. I've installed this build in friends computers with Intel and VIA chipsets without problems, but seems to be that nVIDIA video get this wrong. Not tested with ATI video yet. I'll give a try to nVIDIA official driver and see what happens...

Win7 7201 X64

OK, this is indeed a NVIDIA driver issue!
I finally got it fixed simply by downloading and installing the Vista x64 drivers offered by HP for my particular laptop model (27/2/2007).

This driver may not perform as newer versions but since this laptop is far from being performance oriented I don't really long as it works!

Thanks for the warm welcome
