Hello Sam, and welcome to Seven Forums.
You might see if doing a System Restore using a restore point dated before you had this problem may be able to fix it for you.
Hope this helps,

How can i fix this? Disconnect your other monitor connection. Windows thinks you've got two and it's showing the desktop on the other one. Or, right click the desktop and select Screen Resolution. It might not show up on the right screen either so hold the Windows key and press the right arrow key a few times. If that doesn't work try it with left, up and down. Once you see the window you can select which monitor is primary with the checkbox underneath the Orientation drop-down list. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number baarod/MCP OS Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit CPU Core2 Quad Q6600 @ 3.6GHz 9x400FSB Motherboard Gigabyte G33M-S2H Memory 4GB DDR2 1066 Graphics Card ATI Radeon HD 4670 Sound Card Integrated Azalia Monitor(s) Displays Acer AL1711 Screen Resolution 1280x1024 Keyboard Microsoft Wireless Comfort Keyboard 4000 Mouse Microsoft Wireless Lasr Mouse 5000 PSU 240W TFX Case InWin BT566 Cooling Intel Retail Stock Hard Drives OCZ Vertex SATAII w/ 1.5FW 30,528MB system and apps

If that doesn't work, make sure explorer.exe is running in your tasks. If not, then File > Run... and put in explorer.exe
If for any reason your icons don't show up (happens to me 24/7), then right click on the desktop and go to Arrange > Show desktop icons | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Acer Aspire 5610 OS Windows 7 Professional, Windows Longhorn 4074 CPU Intel Centrino Duo T2350 @ 1.87 GHz Motherboard Acer Grapevine Memory 1GB (2x 512MB DDR2 400Mz) Graphics Card Intel Integrated 945GM Chipset Sound Card On-Board RealTek HD Audio Monitor(s) Displays Generic PnP Monitor Screen Resolution 1280x800 Keyboard Built-In / Random Logitech wireless keyboard Mouse Synaptics Touchpad / Logitech Click! optical mouse. Seriously though, you could ctrl+alt+del and see if you get a screen. If so you could start task manager from there and do what *kenny is saying. Me, I think you've got Explorer running. I have the same behaviour on Windows 7 RC X64. I found out, that this happens only if i add a custom buttonbar (if you rightclick the taskbar and there the uppermost entry( Symbolleiste in german)). I added a new buttonbar as an replacement to the missing launchbar in vista. But this always led to a hanging desktop after reboot/login. If i remove this buttonbar, the problem goes away. This can be reproduced on my system with a Test-Account. TalkingHead
