4GB Corsair Crashing system 2GB is fine (64Bit)??

Hi guys not sure what section this was suposed to go in so sorry if this isn't it

I just bought a corsair memory upgrade VS4GBKIT667D2 - 4GB (2x2GB) Corsair Value Select, DDR2 PC2-5300(667), 240 Pin, Non-ECC Unbuffered, CAS 5-5-5-15 - Scan.co.uk to replace the 2GB my system came with (Packard Bell iMax x3414) but when i use it the system is very unstable it blue screens a lot and it was even a job just reinstalling windows 7 as 9 times out of 10 it would give me random error messages all at different points of the install!

Anyways do you guys think it's a bad batch of memory (Faulty) or something else, all i can note really is i am using 64Bit and that the timings are different (2GB 5-5-5-12 4GB 5-5-5-15) Other than that i have no idea

I think i will just get a refund on the memory, shame as well i was looking forward to running a smooth 4gig lol, esp now i installed 64Bit...

Matt, have you tried updating the bios version to the latest? Did you try the Corsair memory configurator to check if the memory was compatible?

    Check the technical note out here: System BIOS - Stingray BIOS Update - 7608260200 - Downloads - PACKARD BELL IMAX X3414 - PC14102801 - iMax - platform_amadeus_imax - Desktop

    Cheers,

Hi Hamid thanks for the quick reply :) It's funny you mentioned that bios update because i did try that but the installer to create the cd only works on XP so it's gana be a pain creating the disk! Do you think the older bios version would be causing this issue?

Hi Matt, I definitely think you need to update to the latest bios as the technical notes do mention something to do with memory. I'm sure there must be some way of updating the bios via a dos boot disk. I use Corsair memory and I've not had any issues with it which funnily enough I've bought from Scan too .

Matt, if you are going to update the bios, make sure you do it with only 2GB in, because if it crashes doing the update with 4GB in, then you're going to have a non functioning machine. Make sure you follow the instructions to the letter!

Hello i have a similar issue my rig was amdX2 4850 ,4 gb crucial (2x 2gb) picopsu 120 on windows 7 x64.all was ok until i changed the cpu to amdX2 250 now it will only work with 2gb i have tried in in different slots ,still no joy.it will owrk with 4gb with 4850 cpu but only 2 gb with new x2 250 cpu. i have updated the bios, fresh install will not complete with 4 gb nut runs like a dream with 4 gb.so some how a combination with new amd cpu's as the old cpu is fine with 4gb!
