need to freeze mouse and blackout the screen

I'm wanting to create a special mode where my monitor either turns off, or just shows a blank black screen. And once in that mode I want all mouse movements suspended. I would want to be able to exit this mode only by pressing a key on the keyboard. Any ideas on how to do this?
