Windows 7 - Quick Launch bar

Quick Launch bar

MS seem to have decided that their "pin applications to the taskbar" feature is a much better solution than the Quick Launch bar - otherwise surley they would not have annoyed all those who have been using the Quick Launch bar for years by removing it...

I am getting used to the new taskbar in many respects, but one feature of the Quick Launch bar seems to be missing - I used to be able to drag any document onto the icon of an application in the Quick Launch bar to open the document in that app. This was very useful for opening random files with Notebook, and many other cases. I can't find any way of doing something similar with the taskbar. Is there one?

Thanks - Rowan

Hellow Rowan, and welcome to Seven Forums.

You can add the old Quick Launch to the taskbar in Windows 7 if you like.

You can use the Open With feature to temporarily open a file with a program of your choice that supports opening the file type.

To make it easier to open files temporarily with Notepad, you can use the tutorial below to add Open with Notepad.

Open with Notepad - Add or Remove from Context Menu of Files

Hope this helps,
Shawn
