an error occurred while trying to read the source file

OK, I have Windows 7 64-bit installed. Whenever I try to install a program called Auslogics Disk Defrag or Auslogics BoostSpeed, en error message pops out which says an error occurred while trying to read the source file.

I am using Download Accelerator Plus and I can download these files with no problems. But whenever I try installing them, this error message pops out. I tried to click ignore or retry but it did not install these programs.

What is the reason for this?

    Hello Blanchflower,

In my honest opinion, I think it's time to start looking into a clean reinstall of Windows 7. Considering your previous problem with viewing video, it sounds like there is something just not right about your PC at the moment.

Sometimes you invest a lot less time starting over from scratch than getting to the root of multiple problems.

Please listen to me as others would suggest to you just as well... Image your new installation of Windows. When you start having problems like this, you could just reload the image and everything will be fixed in a matter of minutes.

Just something for you to consider.

Well, actually, why did this problem occur? Is the download broken? Also I do not have any external hard disks but I have a second hard drive on my laptop......

Are you actually browsing to the file on your hard drive or clicking it with Download Accelerator? It sounds like for some reason the file moved, so search for the file with Windows and try running it.

Well the publisher of the file is unknown. I downloaded the file and then tried to open it up but to no avail.

This problem does not occur when I download other files, so doing a reinstall is a bit drastic in my opinion. The problem could be with the file.....

Have you tried downloading the file without using any download accelerators?

Well, finally I solved this problem! I just had to disable the Download Accelerator Plus (DAP) and downloaded the file normally and it worked!!!!

I guess the problem could have been the way DAP downloaded the file! Well I learnt something new today on troubleshooting!

Luckily I don't need to reinstall Windows 7!

    Cheers!

I also found out that for some files you download over the Internet, using the acceleration function creates this error.

That's why I suggested disabling DAP. I used to use these apps when I had a slow or unreliable connection, but I ended up with frequently corrupted files. I stopped using them, and haven't missed them at all, to be honest.
