Maybe you could look at the link I posted in Post #7, which may clarify.
If I delete the searches/everywhere folder, I might lose all the files.

Why would you lose all the files? It's a saved search, not the files themselves. If you're worried, you can test it by sending it to the recycle bin and doing a search for files it referenced.
I don't want to try a 'trial and error' approach. I'm still not sure what the hidden searches/everywhere folder is supposed to contain, and how it is used.
Appears Vista has the same folder; and here's a link about someone who deleted this folder.
Recovering from deletion of Searches/Everywhere folder
I can't seem to find much info on this "everywhere" folder.
I don't understand how a saved search file would actually delete the files themselves, but I haven't verified this myself. The "everywhere" file you are looking at is a saved search, not a folder or the files themselves.

Let me clarify:
1) I never had Vista...just refering to links about the searches/everywhere folder
2) I did a clean install of Win 7 in May on a new computer
3) I never did any searches
4) I transfered files fom an XP laptop to Win 7 in a new partition
5) All these files I transfered show up in the searches/everywhere folder.
