everywhere search

How can I clear the user/searches/everywhere files.
There must be thousands of entries, and takes awhile to load.

I thought there might be a way to delete all these items. These supposedly have a ".search-ms" file extension.
I transfered files to this computer, and all these files are listed, inclding sub-folders.
A Vista forum mentioned you could delete them by 'del /*.search-ms' ; but I'm not sure where to use this command.

User/Search/Everywhere files is extremely vague. What are the exact steps you are doing and what is the result that you are trying to fix?

Just started using win 7, and was transferring files to win 7 from another computer onto a seperate partiton. Now, I see the files listed in 'searches/everywhere.
Some files I'd like to keep secure...but they show up in the list.
Can't you delete them?
I don't need to delete a specific search, as the link was for.

I think your problem relates to the areas Windows 7 is indexing for searches. You can re-configure that to your liking:

I only have 2 folders that are indexed...Start Menu & Users.
But it's the searches/everywhere folder that lists all the files on my computer, maybe except program or system files. Maybe you could take a look at this link...

Where and how are you searching? Are you just bringing up the program menu and typing into the search box or what?

If you really care this much about keeping those files secure/hidden/whatever, why don't you just put the files you don't want to be found by search on a separate drive? That would solve the issue without requiring anything more complicated.

I'm not doing any searching. I happened to come across these folders while exploring.
What's in you user/searches/everything folder?
I see my files that I put in a seperate partion, amoung C: & D: folders and files.
Maybe a seperate drive would be the way to go..but not the easiest.
Is the hidden folder "searches/everything" supposed to include all folders and files in your computer?

So, I think I've been misunderstanding this from the beginning. Would simply deleting that particular Everywhere file solve your concern? I thought you were worried about what would be found by using the Windows Search feature, not that one file on the computer contained links to files you didn't want seen (should someone actually ever find it and look at it).
