    Security Tab Missing

I have Windows 7 Home Premium x64. Up till earlier today, I've had no problems. However, I was trying to view the security properties of a folder. However, the Security tab is missing. The only major activity I did before today was to transfer files from a Windows XP computer. I used Windows Easy Transfer to do this. However, it looks like some settings were also transferred to my computer (Windows 7). In addition, I use Autoruns. I have all the check marks enabled in there, and have everything enabled. Still no tab.

Any suggestions as to how to get the tab back?

    Hello !!

Make sure Simple File Sharing is enabled.

Start | Folder Options | View under there looks for Use Simple File Sharing and uncheck that and Hit OK then see if your able to see it.

    Hope this helps,

    See if this helps,

Security Tab - Add or Remove from Properties

Here's another thread to look at if that doesn't work,

Sadly, none of the above methods worked for me. Later in the week, I will see if doing an "upgrade" to this version of Windows will help.

You might try going into the actual "letter" drive folder, right click and then use the Advanced Security tab to allow yourself control of the entire drive. Once you have access to Security tab on the sub folders again you can go back into the drive and set Security and Permissions accordingly.

Thankfully, I decided to dive into the registry and after doing a bit of research, found out the GUID of the Security tab.

The steps I took to resolve this are as follows:
    1. Open regedit.exe
    2. Navigate to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\ShellEx\PropertySheetHandlers
    3. Add a new key with the name below:

      {1F2E5C40-9550-11CE-99D2-00AA006E086C}

After doing this, the security tab should appear.

A .reg file has been attached.

    Hey all,

I've been having this same problem - I want to restore the Security tab. This advice from Capt Jack looks like it might solve the problem, but... I can't find "Use Simple File Sharing" in my Start - Control Panel - Folder Options - View! I thought it might be the check box "Use Sharing Wizard (Recommended)", but that hasn't helped. In case it matters, I'm using Windows 7 Home Premium, 64bit.

I don't have it either in my Home Premium 64bit, that might be for Pro and Ultimate.
