Guys thank you for your support. Yeah my 1st 80MB HDD for XT cost US$500. Those were the old days, now notebooks ship with 1TR HDD. Please scratch your head and think of some way to troubleshoot this. I had a look at the boot items in msconfg and this is no win3.1 the list is endless.

I think windows tries to "discover" and calculate what it is deleting first. Highly nested folders will take longer to delete, the longer the path to the file, the longer it may take. Couple of suggestions:

1) Deleting through the Command prompt will probably be faster.

2) Deleting via the Libraries view is likely to be slower than via the Explorer view.

3) Keep the filepath short.

If the problem does not occur in Safe Mode, I would suspect interference from one of the startup programs. Those are not running in safe mode and are the major difference between safe made and normal mode.
I suggest you disable all the startups and try then. After that you need to reenable them one by one and test to find the culprit. My first suspect would be the security program (Norton, McAfee or whatever). But it could be another one too.
