    Empty Start/All Programs

After an update install from Vista everything seems to be working perfectly EXCEPT none of my existing program are listed in the Start-All Program--it is completely empty! I find I can pin programs to the menu and if I install a new program it does show up. I have no problems accessing my programs from the desktop icons. I want my All Programs back!!

Hi David, welcome to the forums.

You could look here - Start Menu doesn't show after upgrade to 7068 - I've not read it but it seem that it's very similar to what you're experiencing. (and it's marked as solved)..

    I hope it helps :)

there's a bug in most of these versions of windows7 involving more than 70 items in the start menu folder for the user, sometimes it doesn't trigger till you install something new, sometimes it'll trigger right away. consolidating them down to the program type (games, utils, system tools, etc) will fix this. unsure why there's such a bug but eh. this fixes it every time, period.

To me, this sounds like he didn't reinstall his programs...

When you upgrade from Vista, it.... wait... damnit.

Ok you didn't do a clean with Windows.old...

I see. Alright. Check the file paths, and you can add them manually.

easy fix for blank "all programs"

This happened to me twice. It has nothing to do with 70 program limit or direct registry tweaking to solve it. I had only 12 programs when it happened and also it occurred several weeks after win 7 upgrade. I corrected the first occurence by using system restore to an earlier date and now today a second time by following instructions at the site quoted below. It is to do with administrative permissions.

Local Group Policy Editor - Open - Vista Forums

Start Menu All Programs List - Enable or Disable - Vista Forums

    try above site

I think this is the cause of my problem (missing icons) as well. I have 84 items in start menu.

Does anyone know if this has been fixed in 7127?

clean installs are one thing, upgrade installs another. different causes, different bugs. if i keep my clean install program list below 70 items i have no issues, but even just one item over when installing new programs and it all vanishes again.

make a file in startup folder and name it something.bat

    code:
    Code:
    @ECHO OFF
    cd ..
    cd ..
    attrib +h
    sleep 1
