Blank desktop shortcut icons Since installing the RC x64 version from MS my desktop shortcut icons keep going transparent.
I've tried deleting the IconCache in app data and letting it recreate, but still they disappear.
Done several clean reinstalls and after several installation of different programs the icons go transparent again.
Hopefully someone will have had this and sorted it out. | My System Specs |

Shawn, here's the screen shot of the problem. The image part of the desktop shortcut icons are blank.
It's happened on three clean reinstalls of the RC. build 7100. Starts ok, but after a few reboots the image has gone again.
Thanks,
David. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Self Build OS Windows RC 7100 x64, Vista Ultimate x64, CPU Intel Q6700 Motherboard Asus P5Q3 Deluxe wi-fi Memory Corsair DDR3 4gb Graphics Card ATI X1650 Monitor(s) Displays LCD Keyboard Logitech cordless Mouse Logitech cordless PSU Enermax 500w Case Lian-Li PC-7B Plus Cooling Scythe Infinity Hard Drives WD 1500gb 10k

Hi David,
I've not come across that before. I know that you can hide the icons, but that also hides the associated text as well. Does the program activate if you click/double-click in the location of the missing icon? What happens if you try to drag one of these invisible icons to the taskbar?
I notice that you have ACDSee Pro installed. If I am correct, this is a graphics editing program. Did your problem start before or after installing this? | My System Specs | | Computer type PC/Desktop System Manufacturer/Model Number Dwarf Dwf/11/2012 OS Windows 7 Ultimate x64 Service Pack 1 CPU Intel Core-i5-3570K 4-core @ 3.4GHz (Ivy Bridge) (OC 4.2GHz) Motherboard ASRock Z77 Extreme4-M Memory 4 x 4GB DDR3-1600 Corsair Vengeance CMZ8GX3M2A1600C9B (16GB) Graphics Card 2 x AMD Radeon HD7770 1GB CrossFired (OC 1100MHz/1250MHz) Sound Card Realtek High Definition on board solution (ALC 898) Monitor(s) Displays ViewSonic VA1912w Widescreen (VGA) Screen Resolution 1440x900 Keyboard Microsoft Comfort Curve Keyboard 3000 (USB) Mouse Microsoft Comfort Mouse 3000 for Business (USB) PSU XFX Pro Series 850W Semi-Modular Case Gigabyte IF233 Cooling 1 x 120mm Front Inlet 1 x 120mm Rear Exhaust Hard Drives OCZ Agility 3 SSD 120GB SATA III x2 (RAID 0)

Hi Dwarf,
If I drag the icons to the task bar the image shows.
I've used the same version of ACDSee on all of the Windows 7 beta versions and this is the first time that shortcut icons have behaved like this.
I don't have icons on my desktop except for the recycle bin, but I would like to get it fixed.

I've just installed PowerDVD 9 and the icons are back correctly again.
After giving up trying to correct the blank icons, I carried on installing all software, PowerDVD 9 was the last software to install.
Just no nearer knowing what caused the blank icons. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Self Build OS Windows RC 7100 x64, Vista Ultimate x64, CPU Intel Q6700 Motherboard Asus P5Q3 Deluxe wi-fi Memory Corsair DDR3 4gb Graphics Card ATI X1650 Monitor(s) Displays LCD Keyboard Logitech cordless Mouse Logitech cordless PSU Enermax 500w Case Lian-Li PC-7B Plus Cooling Scythe Infinity Hard Drives WD 1500gb 10k

Strange indeed. The only thing that I can think of is that the shortcut overlay had become corrupted somehow and has now corrected itself. Very puzzling. Have you tried removing the overlays at some point? | My System Specs | | Computer type PC/Desktop System Manufacturer/Model Number Dwarf Dwf/11/2012 OS Windows 7 Ultimate x64 Service Pack 1 CPU Intel Core-i5-3570K 4-core @ 3.4GHz (Ivy Bridge) (OC 4.2GHz) Motherboard ASRock Z77 Extreme4-M Memory 4 x 4GB DDR3-1600 Corsair Vengeance CMZ8GX3M2A1600C9B (16GB) Graphics Card 2 x AMD Radeon HD7770 1GB CrossFired (OC 1100MHz/1250MHz) Sound Card Realtek High Definition on board solution (ALC 898) Monitor(s) Displays ViewSonic VA1912w Widescreen (VGA) Screen Resolution 1440x900 Keyboard Microsoft Comfort Curve Keyboard 3000 (USB) Mouse Microsoft Comfort Mouse 3000 for Business (USB) PSU XFX Pro Series 850W Semi-Modular Case Gigabyte IF233 Cooling 1 x 120mm Front Inlet 1 x 120mm Rear Exhaust Hard Drives OCZ Agility 3 SSD 120GB SATA III x2 (RAID 0)

No the shortcut overlay wasn't touched.
The first time I installed the RC one of the first things I always do is get rid of the arrow and the 'shortcut to', but after loosing the image in the icon after tweaking, I reinstalled the OS without tweaking and still the image was lost in the icon.
I see 'scaramonger' in another thread has the same problem. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Self Build OS Windows RC 7100 x64, Vista Ultimate x64, CPU Intel Q6700 Motherboard Asus P5Q3 Deluxe wi-fi Memory Corsair DDR3 4gb Graphics Card ATI X1650 Monitor(s) Displays LCD Keyboard Logitech cordless Mouse Logitech cordless PSU Enermax 500w Case Lian-Li PC-7B Plus Cooling Scythe Infinity Hard Drives WD 1500gb 10k
