Win 7 64 Pro goes to sleep after boot Hi
My win 7 64 bit professional has started to go to sleep right after booting up. The desktop appears briefly and then it sleeps. Pushing the power button then wakes it as normal.
Any ideas? | My System Specs |

By any chance, is it connected to a battery backup? Is it a laptop? Hi, if not in the normal mode, he can atleast do it in safe mode as you suggested. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Samsung NP530U4B-S02IN OS Windows® 8 Pro (64-bit) CPU Intel® Core™ i5 Processor 2467M (1.60GHz, 3MB L3 Cache) Motherboard Samsung Electronics Memory 6GB DDR3 System Memory at 1,333MHz (on BD 4GB + 2GB x 1) Graphics Card AMD Radeon™ HD7550M 1GB DDR3 (Ext. Sounds like a prank I would pull on someone- put a sleep command in the Run registry key loaded at startup. | My System Specs | | OS XP / Win7 x64 Pro CPU Intel Quad-Core Q9450 @ 3.2GHz Motherboard Asus P5-E Memory 2x2GB GSkill DDR2 Graphics Card NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GTS (EVGA) Monitor(s) Displays Dell 2408WFP Screen Resolution 1920x1200 |

I might not be able to do anything before it sleeps but I can once I rewaken it.
But obviously I've tried all the power settings including restoring to default already. It isn't that.
Anyway, since I last posted I used msconfig to laboriously narrow it down to a single service: Windows Event Log. If I disable this from starting the problem goes away. But I want event logs so only a partial success. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Homemade OS Windows 7, Vista, XP CPU Intel E2160 Motherboard GB DS3L Memory 4GB DDR2 Graphics Card Some Nvidia thng Sound Card Audiophile 2496 Monitor(s) Displays Dunno Hard Drives WD 320GB and Spinpoint 1TB |

FliGi7 maybe on to something. Has anyone besides yourself used the machine?
Or the Windows Event Log may be corrupted. A repair install may be in order. There is a tutorial on this forum that will tell you how. If you do, backup your data. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number ATX Custom Build 2012 OS Windows 7 Enterprise x64 SP1 CPU Intel Core i3-2100 @ 3.10GHz Motherboard Intel DH67CL desktop ATX Memory 10 GB DDR3 Graphics Card Asus EAH5450 series (Radeon) Monitor(s) Displays Samsung SyncMaster 226BW, Samsung Syncmaster P2450H Screen Resolution 226BW: 1680 x 1050 & P2450H: 1920 x 1080 Keyboard HP Wireless Elite Keyboard Wireless Keyboard Mouse Microsoft Touch PSU Cooler Master Extreme Power Plus 500W Case Thermaltake V3 Black Edition Cooling stock cooling with added intake fan Hard Drives Western Digital 320 GB sata (boot), Samsung 640 GB sata, Seagate 2 TB sata (data) Internet Speed Comcast Cable business class <=18Mb {averages 12Mb} Other Info Optical drives: LG SuperMulti Blue, HP DVD 1260T

Nobody else uses the machine.
Looking at the dependencies for that service I see Task Scheduler, Event Collector and Norton Ghost are dependent. So I guess it's possible it is one of those rather than the event log service. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Homemade OS Windows 7, Vista, XP CPU Intel E2160 Motherboard GB DS3L Memory 4GB DDR2 Graphics Card Some Nvidia thng Sound Card Audiophile 2496 Monitor(s) Displays Dunno Hard Drives WD 320GB and Spinpoint 1TB Win 7 64 Pro goes to sleep after boot problems?
