3 'Download' folders - how reduce, how make sure one want

    Hi,

I have 3 'Download' folders (folder icon with down blue arrow):
    1) my documents library\'Downloads'
    2) users\'Downloads'
    3) users\Avery\'Downloads'

This seems a little ridiculous, but perhaps there is some rhyme/reason. I would prefer without knowing more info to only have one. More importantly, I want something I download to go where I know it is and can find it. I'm finding different downloads (by some characteristic perhaps) are going to different 'Downloads' folders, making for more trouble and annoyance.

Any ideas? Would love to resolve this. Tried combining and got message that Windows or other applications might not work if I went ahead.

    Thanks, Avery

When you start to DL something, a window should pop up and ask you where you want it to DL to. I use the DL under Users. It could be anywhere that you want it though. You can delete any that you don't use. If a window is not poping up to ask you where to DL to, let us know.

Hello Avery, and welcome to Seven Forums.

The tutorial below can help show you how to remove the included C:\Users\Avery\Downloads folder from your Documents library.

Library - Remove a Included Folder

It sounds like your Downloads folder may no longer have it's default C:\Users\Avery\Downloads folder location set to it. Check using OPTION TWO in the tutorial below to make sure that the Downloads folder is set with it's default location in the registry. While your there, double check to make sure that the Documents folder is set with it's default location as well since it is involved.

User Folders - Restore Default Location

    Hope this helps,
    Shawn

    Specific DL folder question follow-ups

    Bigmck -

I have never been asked where to download to. I use Firefox and it's small DL window opens and shows the file downloaded. Where it's been going is part of my original question....

Sounds like Brink's suggestion is a good one and could settle the issue...my only follow-up and do not ask me why because computers do not always shine on me...there were, as I specified, 3 DL folders. Now there are 2!?! The DL in Users is gone, yes Users\Avery is there as is the My Doc Library. One, any thoughts? Two, I would proceed with Brink's directions using users\avery, ignoring the mystery, EXCEPT, some crazy transfer of files locked up all the permissions in a bunch of files..in My Docs. period. But when I went to the Users files most of them were all locked up as well. have reset all permissions, etc. but did that have anything to do with where my Users\DLs folder went to?

I appreciate your help and input. Just think of the much more educated questions I'll be able to pose to the forum in a matter of time

    Thanks, Avery

    Hello Avery,

It really depends on how they were moved to begin with, but were you able to get them all back to their default locations and have access to them?

Firefox does whatever you have told it to do with downloads...see the screenshot.
