    Recycle Bin disappeared off desktop

    Hello,
I am running Windows 7 Ultimate 64 Bit and today or maybe yesterday the Recycle Bin Icon on the Desktop disappeared. Went into Personalize/Change Desktop Icons and the Recycle Bin is checked. I unchecked and rebooted and then checked it and rebooted with no change in the results. I tried adding the Computer to the Desktop and it too will not display.
Any help is appreciated. I been fighting with this install and the Zonealarm problem and the Commodo Firewall problem.
    Thanks in advance

Just guessing, but try rebuilding the icons:

Thank you Gentlemen for your responses.

    The Howling Wolves,
Yes I did try the restore defaults, no luck. Thank you for your time and knowledge.

    seekermeister,
I will follow that link and do whatever it is that a rebuilding icons does. Thank you for your time, knowledge and link. I will get back with any results.

    richc46,
Thanks and I will look into it as I have a second recycle bin question once I get the icon to reappear. Again thank you for taking the time and share your knowledge with a re-newbie. Haven't built a computer in 10 years and never had problems like I'm having with anything up to XP Pro. I've had the Zonealarm Firewall problem, the Commodo Firewall problem and the A-Squared explorer problem. Loosing it!!
Will certainly look into the link.

Here is more advice from Rich and Seven Forums. Use Microsoft Security Essentials and the Windows Firewall, built with windows in mind.

    The Howling Wolves,
Since seekermeister's rebuild did not bring the icons back I did the restore default again. I noticed as I noticed that I already had Computer and Recycle Bin checked for on and when I hit the restore default nothing except the fact that the Computer Icon checkbox became highlighted. It did not the same as before do anything and did not turn on the Apply button. So I guess I don't know if I did do a Restore Default after all.

    Hello seekermeister,
I did the rebuild using the manual Explorer method and I saw Windows display a rebuilding icon message. Unfortunately it did not alter the issue. Thanks for the idea.

try this Right click a blank area of your taskbar, point to "Toolbars," and then click on "Desktop." this makes the desktop show up as a toolbar on your taskbar Click on the double carets (>>) next to "Desktop" on your taskbar. Look for your recycle bin in the menu that comes up.Drag the recycle bin from the menu to your desktop by clicking on it with your mouse, holding the mouse button down, and moving it to the desktop. then right click your taskbar agian toolbars and unselect desktop. Good luck to you.

    Howdy richc46,
If it wasn't for bad luck, I'd have no luck at all. Old blues tune I can currently relate to. I altered the Local Policy of remove recycle bin icon to disabled, rebooted and same thing, no recycle bin or computer icons are showing. Also thanks for the idea of using the Windows firewall and antivirus program.

    Hello The Howling Wolves,
No the answer continues to be any desktop icons do not show even though they are checked off and the Recycle Bin shows in the Windows Explorer Desktop folder clearly.
Increasingly confused. Don't worry it is a natural condition.

Thanks you Gentlemen for your ideas but as of yet they have been unsuccessful.
