How do I get Administrator rights?

I am the only user on my machine. When I look at the user account it says I am an administrator. However, when I try to run certain programs, or access certain folders, I get a message that Administrator privileges are needed and I don't have them.

How do I correct this so I have administrator privileges?

Right click on the program, then run as administrator.

Read this, ask questions and you will be ok
    Run as Administrator

Thank You for the suggestion. But if you look at OP's message in addition to Rich's post Take Ownership will become handy since he got some access denied messages

Warning: Don't go changing permissions on random folders. You may permanently disable your W7 install.

I.e. don't touch ANYTHING under \Windows and be very careful about anything under \Users.

Take Ownership is mainly used to import files from disks created on other computers. I.e. old disks being moved from an older install to a new W7 machine that has a different user account...

    Another method, my favorite
    Start-run-lusrmgr.msc...Users-Administrator(uncheck Account is disabled)-apply-ok.

Log off and log on as Administrator

I am not sure what this command do ?

Is it a joke or is it the actual right way to get control over my computer ?

I do not want to have to log in as administrator, I have my own username...

    Thanks,
