USB ,External HDD files and Windows 7

    I have a general question :

I have my sensitive files and data stored in either a USB or external drive. When these files are opened for viewing and editing (using Excel or Word) , then resaved back in the External Storage Media, will Windows 7 or any other Win OS for that matter retain the info somewhere in the computer that I use for editing after I exit the program ?

    Thanks

    Hi, sportflyer.

As indicated in Microsoft KB Article 211632, Description of how Word creates temporary files, there are temp files created but they are removed with Word is closed.

A temporary file is a file that is created to temporarily store information in order to free memory for other purposes, or to act as a safety net to prevent data loss when a program performs certain functions. For example, Word determines automatically where and when it needs to create temporary files. The temporary files only exist during the current session of Word. When Word is shut down in a normal fashion, all temporary files are first closed and then deleted.

Thank you for the replies. I feel much safer now knowing that no sensitive info will be left on my computer after my sessions are closed .
