Windows 7: Files that appear only in some views

Files that appear only in some views

I have a puzzling Windows 7 issue.

I do a lot of crossword puzzles and I save the weekend ones as PDFs in a folder for later access.

If I select save from my PDF software and point to a folder in My Documents, the file appears to save there. If I try to re-save it, I am asked if I want to replace it or not.

If I go to libraries and navigate to the same folder, the PDF I just saved in not there.

Can someone help me solve the mystery of the missing puzzle?

Thanks,

Doug

I am sure its there. do you have hidden folders unchecked? have you tried searching for its file name?

Can you see them if you don't use Libraries, just navigate to C:\Users\[youraccountname]\Documents?

Rick & Wanikiya, thanks for your replies.

I see the same content when I navigate to the folder in question and, yes, hidden folders are visible.

I did some more testing and it seems to be a IE8 issue. I tried to save files to the folder in question and to my desktop with Firefox and it worked fine and the saved file appears in the library.

My default PDF viewer is Nuance's PDF Professional 6 in both browsers.

Are there IE8 settings I should check to address this peculiar issue?

Thanks again,

What happens if you save to another folder, like your Desktop?

Also, try running IE8 with no Add-ons and see what happens. Click on Start then type iexplore -extoff and press Enter.

Solution, such as it is, found

First of all, thanks to everyone that offered a suggested solution to my bizarre file-finding issue.

After a whole bunch of trial and error/experimentation, I found the problem.

I had Nuance's PDF reader installed on my computer. I then purchased and installed Nuance's PDF Converter Professional 6. The installation program for that software never asked what viewer I wanted to us and tried to install itself as the viewer. Clearly, something did not work properly.

After a number of fruitmess exchanges with Nuance Tech Support, who could not even read and understand what I sent them, I again downloaded the viewer and installed it. I can now view all PDFs using the viewer and same them anywhere I want them to be. Installing the view did not impair my ability to create PDFs using Pro6, so I am back in business.

Thanks again,

Doug
