Some applications check the system location to decide installation language. For instance in my systems I have chosen United Kingdom as my location, to avoid automated language selection choosing German.

change default language back to english-system_location.png

Some programs let you choose the language. Using the KMPlayer which you mentioned as an example, it asks you when installed two times which language you want to use. First it asks in which language you want the installer:

change default language back to english-kmp_1.png

When KMPlayer is then run first time, it asks in which language you want the program to be:

change default language back to english-kmp_2.png

I did not find language option in KMPlayer preferences when it was installed, so I suggest you reinstall it choosing the correct language. Other players like VLC and WinAmp have this option, to change language, in preferences.

can someone point me to the english language pack to download directly, not thru windows update.

I will try reinstalling the language pack.

my location is already set to australia etc..

i already went thru kmplayer setup and chose english
but it still defaults to chinese as menu display.

Only legal way to download, install and use language packs is to get them from Windows Update. To be to do that, you need Windows Ultimate and Enterprise.

Windows language packs have nothing to do with your issue. They change the language of Windows and its features, not the language of third party applications.

Windows Update is the only legal way to download and install language packs. Besides, according to your thread titel and original post, I have the impression that you have English Windows 7, so the English language pack would not be available to you, nor would it let you install it.

You can not install a language pack of the language of your original Windows installation.

Uninstall KMPlayer, and reinstall it. Choose English as installer language, and on first run English as application language. Before reinstalling, check that your system location is set to an English speaking country.
