Hi,

For some reason windows explorer insists having single click turned on disregarding my choice of double clicking(the standard)

This is highly annoying.

I've taken screen shots of my setting and the lack of results in folder view.

Just to be sure I understand your problem, you're saying that you set it to "double click" and then it goes back to single click?

Yes, I actually never touched the setting, it started this behavior out of the blue. I'm not running any kind of third party windows optimizer or anything like that I never use them.

Changing settings from double click to single click and back does nothing. The indicator dot moves all right and it doesn't move back on it's own but the behavior never changes.

The contents of a folder does not seem to influence anything either.

Hi Shawn thanks for the reply.

The reg file didn't do anything on my machine but if I, as per your suggestion in the thread, created a new administrator it fixed the problem under the new user.

It does seem a little excessive don't you think? If a new user doesn't have this problem isn't there a way to copy those working explorer settings from the newly created user?

Phero,

I have updated the Double click download at that link. Please download and try it to see if it may be able to help better for you. Be sure to restart the computer after merging it.

Hi Shawn,

I've merged the new reg file(794 bytes vs 548 bytes) to no avail. I did try restarting and I forgot to mention that I also ran a Windows system file check (sfc /scannow) and it completed with no errors.

In that case, it seems that using the new user account may be the only option, then copy all of the contents of the old user account's C:\Users\(user-name) folders (including hidden AppData folder) into the corresponding new account's C:\Users\(user-name) folders. After everything checks out ok, you can delete the old user account while logged in the new user account.

Hi Shawn thanks for your suggestions.

I did create a new user and copied everything but when I log in I still have to re-create a lot of settings from scratch. It does not find my Outlook pst file, nor my favorites for Firefox, my Gmail checker settings, my skype user and son and so forth. This all makes it an extreme headache to start from scratch. I might as well re-install windows if I was to choose this option.

Have a great weekend.

Regards.

There is no need to start from scratch. Use Windows Easy Transfer to copy the settings from one user to another. It will get EVERYTHING.

You could try running a sfc /scannow command to see if it may be able to fix this in your original user account. If not, then you could also do a repair install to fix it without losing anything. This way you will not have to start from scratch.
