I wouldn't do it... Vista works just fine... Maybe the lack of drivers, and UAC being annoying was a pain in the beginning, but since sp1 vista was a solid operating system that got a bad rep... | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number fakeasdf (c) OS Win 7 Pro x64 x 3, Win 7 Pro x86, Ubuntu 9.04 CPU 2 x C2D E8600@3.33 Ghz, C2D T8300@2.4 ghz, P4 @ 3.0 ghz, Motherboard GIGABYTE GA-EP35-DS3P LGA 775 Intel P35 ATX Dynamic Energy S Memory 2x8 GB Corsair, 4GB Kingston, 2GB GSkill Graphics Card ATI Radeon 4670 1 GB DDR3, 2600 Pro, 2400 Pro, Intel 965 Sound Card I don't care... Well, the lack of Ultimate Extras does make the analyst suggesting it understandable.
Highly doubt they'd do it for free though, especially since there's almost certainly some legal mumbo jumbo about "no guarantees" in the Vista Ultimate stuff.
Anyway, if they were smart they'd take pricing for upgrades coming from Ultimate into account if possible, but I highly doubt they'd do it fully "free."
The big lack of follow through on those hyped Ultimate extras was pretty bad though. | My System Specs

Hi there
I DID read something about 2 months ago about this -- you might find that some OEM computers which will be shipped from August with VISTA already installed will offer a Free Windows 7 upgrade.
I can't remember Chapter and verse however - but given the current state of the economy this would makle a lot of sense -- people wouldn't "Hold off" buying a computer because the new OS wasn't quite ready yet.
This article could be of interest however Vista to Windows 7 Free Upgrade Plans Leaked? - Tom's Hardware

So everybody that has vista ultimate gets a free upgrade.... hmm
problem. There are literally millions of folks who acquired vista ultimate instead of going through the hassle of driving to the store and shelling out almost 400 dollars.
With really noway to distinguish these parties from paying customers, i doubt that will happen. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number eMachines W3502 OS Windows 7 Ultimate x32 CPU Intel Celeron D 3.2 Ghz 533 fsb (LGA 775) Motherboard Intel D101GGC Memory 1 GB (2x512MB) PC-3200 DDR @ 200Mhz Graphics Card Nvidia GeForce 9400GT- 1GB Sound Card Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreame Gamer Monitor(s) Displays 19" LCD HDtv Screen Resolution 1360x768 @ 60Htz Keyboard Stock. Yes, there's expected to be a free upgrade system for those purchasing new computers with Vista Home Premium and up starting June 26.
However, this article is about those who purchased Vista Ultimate over the last couple years not getting all the extras they were promised and thought they were paying for, and if Windows 7 should be free to all those who purchased it already.
And yes, they could have a way to distinguish legitimate Ultimate keys for such a thing. | My System Specs | | Free Upgrade to 7 ??? problems? All times are GMT -5. The time now is 05:45 AM.
