Boot no Boot!!!
Hi friends
I have my spec on the profile... anyways i'll first give information on the history of the problem
I have a DELL inspiron 1520 notebook configured for Win Vista 32 bit home premium, with Nvidia Geforce 8600M GT 256 GDDR2 gpu, 2 GB ram, 1280x800 WXGA LCD screen,
Core 2 Intel processor T7100.
Now when windows 7 was released, i got my hands on an original copy of win7 professional from msdn site and installed it.
This was done in sometime around Jan 2010. Then i went on to install the latest Nvidia driver for my gpu from Nvidia's site which was succesful. I mostly used my notebook either for running high perrformance games like crysis, gears of war, mass effect ( which worked smoothly) or for working on CATIA, MATLAB, Fluent etc
Now sometime around March the screen started fluttering and showing lines/stripes etc.
Which would die out if i would restart my system after an hour or so(figured it to be a heating problem). But in the end the whole system failed and on startup my system would load onto the windows screen and hang and run only in safe mode through which i was able to recover my data peacefully. I contacted DELL and had to renew my warranty after which as they themselves couldn't get to the core of it, suggested replacing LCD,LCD adapter, Gpu,Hdd,Video adapter.
Well then again it started working fine and off i went to my usual routine w/o any problems untill recently.
Just 3 days back i updated my nvidia driver from the site (one released in july2010)WHQL certified, and on installation and after being asked for restart, the system went into a *coma*.
I mean now it does not even boot up. This on getting relayed to dell tech support, responded by saying that your hardware doesnot support win 7 and that is why the problem is occuring /or because Dell products arent made for Indian like climate it could be because of the heat and humidity.
Although they are supposed to check and replace and fix whatever the issue is,
i would request anyone who has some solution to this to help me out.
THings i would like to know.
1 Is this hardware really not compatible with Win 7 pro? (cuz it works just fine on my friends notebook(same specs) even with the latest nvidia upgrade)
2 Can this really be a heat/humidity related issue?
3 If i have to switch back to vista 32, what is the latest nvidia driver available for the card?
Thanks in Advance
Cheers
